with the likely sunset of the AW ban, and the fact that HK is opening a factory here, what do you think is the likelyhood of us seeing semi auto versions of some of HK's new rifles, like the G36 and that XM8 that the military is supposed to be adopting (to replace the M16/AR15/M4 family)

eh, we might see some of it, but it's still so expensive. i hope mag prices come down, because i want some of their AR mags, but they sell to LEOs for nearly $50 each.

    $50 for LEO mags?

    Oh well I'd still get a G36 or XM8

yes, because they cannot be imported here because of an import ban passed under bush v1.0

But they are opening a factory here (meaning no import) and the AW ban is ending (meaning it would be legal to own/sell any of their rifles in semi auto only configuration).

    HKM4? :)

although it looks just like a regular one with a different front sight and gas tube and no upper handguard.

The XM8 doesn't seem practical to me, with the way its supposed to be some super gun that will adapt to any caliber or any situation.

A super-adaptive gun like that sounds great on paper, but I don't think it would work that well out on the battlefield. It seems like it would be too complex to work right. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

that "gas tube" you see is a gas piston in motion. it's a gas piston system. a standard AR has no gas piston. the piston driven system is more reliable, a la the AK family. there's no upper handguard so you can see the thing in action. yes, that's an HK front sight.

which is exactly why they wont do it. HK proprietary mags = more money for HK.
