cops should have been carrying FN 5-7s, and .50cals in the cruisers... then the situation would not have gotten out of control :o

blah, even a 10/22 with a scope could have ended it.

once again california sucks, even its police departments were neutered. If it wasnt for that, they wouldn't have the decent weapons they use now.

More competant police officers could have ended it more quickly.

Police carrying ARs or M-14s could have ended it quickly...

I think a lot of large police departments don't want their officers carrying longarms in their cruisers. I asked a friend about carrying an AR15 in his cruiser (he's NOPD) and he's like, "They won't let us because if we shoot someone there's too high of a chance that it'll go through a wall downtown and hit someone" They can only carry shotguns in the cars.

That is really the only crappy thing I've seen on the History Channel regarding guns.. they usually do a good job. Hell, they did a Shootout! episode or something like that on Columbine, and provided excellent attention to the firearms..

The LA shootout could have been ended by anyone with a decent scope, or by officers who had sufficient training.

I really don't understand why they don't train police for the worst case scenarios.. train for the worst, and in turn, you train for the not-so-bad as well..

i guess its a catch-22 - if you train all cops to be 1337 :)mamoru: ) then the cost of training goes way up, and thus u can afford less cops... but yes i, judging from my interaction with cops, they do need more training, tho i have come across 1 or 2 that take their training upon themselves - paying for extra classes etc...
