sooooo, i just downloaded and burned 8.3, tried to boot a new dell, won’t work, find out there’s an 8.6 which should have sata drivers - download and burn that, and try to boot

    no go.

gcdrom.sys loads, 1394cd.sys starts to load and fails, then it all hangs on atapicd.sys and will not continue

    any help here? :dunno:

Well I've never used the prog, but I can guess that if it's hanging on the atapicd section that there is an issue with the burner. (duh, I know)

So is this your computer? Can you do some troubleshooting on it?
How about swapping out the burner, temporarily.

One other guess though... this isn't by chance an SATA burner is it?

Ouch. I've heard of tons of problems with the SATA drives for some reason.

Even Plextor couldn't make one foolproof. Their 716 series was a mess in the SATA version.

Other than trying an external drive, I don't know what else to suggest.

Which is not to suggest that I'm positive that it's the burner.
But it does sound like it is.

well, the burner DOES work - or it wouldn't get to the point it gets to
just don't have the right drivers...

I wonder if that prog can cause a situation where having started with the 8.3, it has loaded enough information onto the hd that it's stuck in the loop with that version?

afaik, nothing gets load on the hard drive -especially since if cloning it is what you're going to do

found a copy of acronis true image server, downloaded and installed and made boot cd from that and it worked perfectly fine (from the ext.usbdvd) to clone the drive

still  @ hiren though for this bit, otherwise

Oh fuck, I didn't realize you were trying to create a backup. :mamoru:

Like I said, I don't know anything about that prog.

But Acronis is foolproof for most people.
