Mobb Deep-The Infamous is the single greatest rap album of all time in my opinion. They were still very young and don't just glorify their life.

A few other albums that are very strong and of similar style:

    Raekwon-Only Built For Cuban Linx
    Nas-Illmatic
    Jayz- Reasonable Doubt

Another album thats very different but also EXTREMELY fucking good is Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek's Reflection On Eternal

the guy above me has some cool people listed, but some of the Def Jux record label people are alittle too cocksure for me. Atmosphere is definitely solid, check him out...

Most of A Tribe Called Quest's albums are solid, but make sure they are the ones that still have Q-Tip

"Reflection Eternal" is actually what Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek call themselves when they are together, Train of Thought was the name of the album and is in my opinion Talib's best work.

If you enjoy that style of hip-hop i'd also check out other Rawkus Records artist's albums like; Pharoahe Monch - Internal Affairs and Big L - The Big Picture.

You should also check out Deltron 3030, Sway and King Tech, Def Squad, Dilated Peoples, Chino XL, Canibus, Journalist, Handsome Boy Modeling School, MF Doom, and Jurassic 5. To name a few.
