I'm trying to increase the amount of situps I can do in 2 minutes, and after about 60 or so situps my lower back/hips just give out on me and I can't do anymore, I can still do crunches but can't get the lower half of my abdomen up all the way for a complete situp after about 60 or so.

So I was talking to someone at my gym and he told me I need to work on my hip flexors and that will solve this problem and increase the number of situps I can do dramatically.

SO, I was wondering is 1) is what he told me good advice/true? and 2) what are some good hip flexor exercises?

Is the "roman chair" a good thing to do for hip flexors? the thing in this picture: http://tsa.imageg.net/graphics/product_images/p1001929dt.jpg

    Thanks

i like to sit at the end of a bench, slightly reclined, and lift my knees into my chest. i feel and look like a fag doing it so i rarely do. but it does nail your hip flexors

Missionary position or doggy-style sex with a heavy band just above your hips
