    discuss.

But seriously, why dont more people swim or jump rope instead of or in addition to running? Is it because swimming uses too much upper body strength and so isnt optimal on off days of lifting? Is it just because we associate jumping rope with teh gay? Why does everybody think of running first? I know its hella convienent, but then mutherfuckers go out and buy a tredmill, which is like, the opposite of convienent. Buy a bad ass jump rope=15 bucks, max.

Not everyone takes to high impact running or jump rope well...so they swim. I love running but I know people that either have old injuries or just "weak" legs so they swim or use an elliptical instead.

I read several studies where it stated that swimming promoted fat retention in some people...

Of course it is still a very effectvie way to lose calories...

10 minutes of jumping rope is equivalent to 30 of running

I like to kick the hell out of a bag (and punch it)...shadow boxing is fun too...

I also like the run because it make me feel free. And I can't swim really fast for 2 reasons, my boobs are too big
and my three year old would probably drown while I was doing it.

    how about the most obvious

    ....

not everyone has easy access to a pool..

I can go run outside and be done in 20 minutes...when I want to swim, I have to drive to my gym on THEIR schedule, swim, then drive back...easy hour wasted

Swimming is great for the bod. Excellent shoulder workout, great for the rotator cuffs, and is essentially a full body workout. Swimming does not soley use upper body strength, considering the legs are used for propulsion, and the core is used for stabilization in the water.

Some people prefer to swim as running and jumping rope can be hard on the joints. Swimming is can definitely be considered a low impact exercise and is a great source for cardio excercise.

    You make the choice.
