Quick yes/no question: Instead of running, could I do another physical activity intensively instead, i.e. cycling, erg, or elliptical?

You can do it on pretty much anything. I used to do it on a stairmaster when I lived in my apartment.

20-30 minutes post workout or pre-breakfast cardio works just fucking fine, no need to get all technical and HIIT and all that fucking jazz. its 99.8% diet anyways. I can get sub 6% bodyfat and not even step on a fucking exercise machine or run.

AAS & good genetics play a large factor in that. Average people have a hard time getting below 10% (while retaining lbm) without cardio, in my experience.

Yeah, it actually had an interval program built-in. During the recover phase it was just a calm, easy stride up the "stairs." When the high intensity part kicked in it was like running up stairs full speed. It seems just as effective as sprinting outside, in the comfort of your apartment. :)
