I just started weightlifting about a month ago (with practically no base), and right now I do on average 3x10 for all exercises. If I'm not tired after the 4th, I'll keep doing sets of 10 until I get to a set where I can't finish 10. My friend told me that'll tone more than it'll build muscle mass. He said I should try higher weight and go for 3x6 for a lot of the bigger muscle groups. What do you guys think?

lower reps is strength, higher is mass. aim for certain number of sets for a muscle group. i do 9 for bi, 9 for tri, 15 for chest/back/legs, 9-12 for shoulders.

louie simmons says he would never recommend for someone in bodybuilding to do less than 6 reps, i usually do 6-8 cause of this. change it up from time to time.

tell your friend to go read about F&N.

Well my main concern is mass because I'm trying to bulk like crazy (I'm 5'7" @ 125lbs). What would you recommend?

try different things, since you're just starting you will gain mass probably no matter what. but just test out different things and see what works best for you. i started out with 15 reps per set to get my stamina up. now i only do 6-8 id say go for 8-12 and see how taht does you.

I do a periodization routine, 8 workouts of higher reps usually try to get 15. Then 8 workouts of lower rep and higher weight and do around 2-3 reps.

8-10 reps. theres a whole bunch of people that will say you should only do 5 reps for everything but they are fat powerlifting assholes.

I would say for squats, deadlift, and bench do higher weight lower reps.

I do 5x5 with my 5th set my 5rm max and I went from 145 to 205 in about 6 months and I would not consider my self fat.

If you want to grow you have to eat, muscles are made in the kitchen not the gym. If you have the most increadible lifting regime and great dedication but eat like shit your gains will be shitty.

If you really want to gain some stength and muscle mass search t-nation for "westide for skinny basterds", I have a buddy who plays baseball at Penn State-Alatoona and he did something simlier during the off season and made some great gains.
