I couldnt figure out the wb to the ambient light, so i just custom wb with my omnibounce in the middle of the half court before the game started

lightroom doesnt change anything when i try to wb it manually

the lights allowed me to bump the shutter speed up higher allowing them to be a bit sharper

    looks good

only problem with strobing is being a pest, not trying to distract the players of the game and forgetting to turn off the remote for HS FPS

Were your flashes gelled for fluorescent? Cause that's what the ambient looks like which makes your flashes look magenta.

I probably would've just shot higher ISO in something like this.

But that gym does look really dark.

Ive shot at 3200(max) on my 20D without the flash and it was not good enough for the shutter speeds i wanted to use, in order to maintain some sharpness. These players move pretty damn fast :o

Sounds like you need better gear.

Because that just looks horrible. And i could only imagine sitting in the audience with flashes going off :hsugh:

One note, you're doing it wrong...

Is there ANY part of the first picture that's in focus? I can't tell what the hell is going on in the last two pics. Did you really just throw a couple of bare bulb flashes up at the end of the court, eye level?

correct. there are a bunch of keepers

thinking about getting better gear makes me :noes:

usually people ALWAYS say that gear wont make the pictures look any better, but I guess this is the rare exception :o

I have a buddy who shot college basket ball professionally for years with a 20D. I haven't seen him in a while now though, but I bet he was glad when the higher ISO models started coming out. At least you know its doable though.

I'm sure they're just as distracting as the flashes from all the moms with their point and shoot cameras

but yes.. these do look horrible.

The annoying moms aren't firing off hundreds of frames a game though.

I'm sure the players hardly noticed them, but I bet that fans sure did.

one mom.. no, but collectively when you get all the highschool kids there, all the parents, grand parents, aunts uncles... I'm sure they're firing more shots off than the "pro"

I though you cross-lit the court? If I remember correctly Hobby put them by the bleachers on either side so they wouldnt be getting blinded. He only put one by the basket to fill in the middle.
