have a question, I'm still playing with the 7D that I got a few days ago, and wanted to know what do you guys recommend for Noise Reduction on High ISO pics?

I took some pics in low lighting at 6400 and 12800 iso, and there was considerable noise (red dots everywhere, etc). I use Lightroom for the most part, but a few folks have told me that the new Canon RAW software that comes with the 7D has a better NR feature.

any insights would be appreciated. :wavey:

i've used this for a bit, but i feel the pics become a little soft once the noise is removed. is this normal?

you can play with the settings, i believe. Having it profile hte picture and automatically run will yield a little softness.

I havent really used it very much, but sometimes i run them through and i notice this as well

i imagine a little more USM [either in NN or after] would help with the softness.

canon's software is better than Adobe's, but a lot less user friendly...

There isn't a single noise removal program that doesn't just soften the shit out of your image in order to get rid of the noise...

Personally, i would rather have the noise.

I don't mind some noise, but the speckles and red/white dots everywhere fucking annoy the shit out of me and make the pics intolerable.

well I will say that the RAW conversion from Canon does a better job than Lightroom at this point, and that through the conversion there is less noise.

Personally I don't mind it if the image is properly exposed. Underexposed, forget about it

In general I'm a bigger fan of neat image for noise removal

Out of curiosity i'd like to know what you were shooting at such high ISO. I'm leaning towards you just took test shots just to complain about it :hsugh:

i find the noise at even 12800 is usable. ive shot quite a lot at that iso so far on my 7D.
