I'm looking for a good/portable graphic novel to read for an upcoming trip. I picked up (and finished ) Watchman after watching the movie trailer, and I'm craving more. Any suggestions?

Just clarifying, because the 300 book I saw was huge, but these all come in smaller formats?

It'll be hard for you to find them not in the HUGE movie promo books.

If you're just getting in to it, you might want to try downloading a bunch of stuff to see what you like. When you find out what you're into, start buying some books from your LCBS.

You can find torrents or rapidshares of comics every wednesday, usually that night everything will be scanned.

The new Joker graphic novel is out (I think). Everyone is saying it's amazing. I'm not even a big fan of DC characters, but these little graphic novels are usually pretty good.

I'd recommend Preacher, Y the Last Man, Kingdom Come.

Thanks for the suggestions. So far I've got the Sin City collection, The Dark Knight Returns, and Preacher ordered.

I came across this list from Time Magazine and some sounded kind of interesting (and many don't look like "traditional" graphic novels).

    Archwood
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier
    All Star Superman
    Marvel Zombies 2
Jack of the Fables, Vol. 1: The (Nearly) Great Escape
    The Principles of Uncertainty
    Exit Wounds

Could you give me a quick yay or nay rundown on some of these?

League of Extraordinary Gentleman was a little weird for me. I couldn't get in to it, it was all over the place. If you wanna check our marvel zombies, I'd suggest starting at #1.

i wouldn't read the black dossier first, it has a LOT of reading and is an investment in time. if you don't like vol 1 and vol 2, then you won't like this. having said that, the first two were amazing and i love the black dossier.

You'll love Scalped. It's a tale of organized crime, in an entirely modern and relevant setting.

I just hope quality doesn't fall off in the future. Jason Aaron has alot on his plate now, not all of it is that great.
