    Hi everyone

I've been reading posts for a while here now. I started going to the gym properly in February this year. My aim was to bulk up some muscle and to reduce my body fat. I know that these 2 aims are hard to do at the same time so I have been concentrating more on bulking by lifting weights.

Here is a picture of what my body would have looked like back in Feb. This actual pic was taken much earlier than Feb, but my body hadn't changed in that period so its more or less correct.

    Before GYM

As you can see, im generally skinny but i got fat around my belly and hips. My arms are skinny. I have no definition. I would not want to exhibit myself in public. My strength sucks. A plus point is that I have a good height, 6'0". My weight was approx. 160lbs.

The pics below were taken yesterday. 05/05/05.

Do you think there is much noticeable improvement? I think that my arms have got bigger, my chest is slightly bigger, i've lost some fat around my belly and generally I look in better shape. Yes I am pulling my stomach in for the pictures. I feel for 3 months the progress is pretty good. My weight has increased from 160lbs to 170lbs. My strength has increased quite a bit.

The gym is becoming a way of life for me now, not a hobby. I am motivated to look better and better. Hopefully I'll go from strength to strength. I'd like to thank this forum for the info its provided to help me kick start my addiction to fitness!

Any comments or suggestions most welcome

what's you're diet look like? I see progress. It doesn't happen over night. You should really pic to either bulk or cut, it's really really hard to loose fat and gain muslce. I would suggest a very clean high calorie/protien/carb diet.
I'd also suggest a new hair style and evening out your skin tone, but who really cares about that when you put some good size on.

My diet is slightly confused. Although there is progress I am trying to do opposite things by gaining muscle and losing fat. I want my abs to show and look good for the summer, so I do run 5km once a week and I avoid eating sugary foods or those high in fat. I want to bulk up a little more though so I am trying to eat plenty of protein.

I don't have any solid routines made up yet, I know I should do.

In the Gym I do the following:

    Chest

    Chest Dips - 8x3
    Dumb Bell Bench Press - 8x3 100lbs

    Triceps

    Tricep Dips 8x3
    Tricep Kick-backs - 8x3 18lbs

    Bicep

    Bicel Curls - 8x3 33lbs

    Back

Lat Pulls (lever front pulldown) 8x3 200lbs
Close Grin Chin Ups - 8x3
Wider Grin Chin Ups - 8x3
Stiff Leg Deadlift (for glutes) - 8x3 70lbs

    Shoulders

    Dumb Bell Shoulder Press - 8x3 65lbs
    Dumb Bell Front Rise - 8x3 22lbs

    Abs

For my ABS I do a variety of crunchs and cable machine exercises.

It's not very much, but that's what I'm doing at the moment.

    Nutrition -

Breakfast: Fried Egg, 2x Toast, Tea

Lunch: Wholemeal Bread Sandwich with Tuna, Cottage Cheese & Vegetables.

    <Work out>

    Protein-Shake Post-Workout Drink - Contains 40g of Protein

Evening Meal - Usually lots of chicken or red meat

I don't know how many calories I'm consuming but generally I'm trying to avoid junk food too much and fatty stuff.

Please comment on any of the above.

cardio would be best as low impact, low intesity like 20 minutes 3 days a week on the eliptical or treadmill with a moderate incline.
I would suggest incline db and maybe a fly movement.
You need some rows. I really like to superset over hand barbell rows with underhand barbell rows for 6 sets.
this is where your military press should be, and also lets not forget our rear delts.
first and foremost, I need to know if you're doing all this in one day? I don't think you are. Reguardless, there's no legs in there. You need to start working legs.
    You're not eating enough.

Holy shit you would have a reach! Good job on the progress. Also boxing is a good sport to get into to when you want to get in shape.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

trancezj - I'm gonna sort myself out a better routine once I read into a few resources, the stickies and different plans. Thanks for your suggestions you offered.

Currently I'm doing different parts of the body on different days at the gym and I'm leaving one session for pure cardio.

As for the boxing comments, hehe I heard that quite a bit. I might join a boxing club. If anything it's good cardio and will be a good self defense / offense tool!

    Just a few questions..

Can anyone estimate my body fat percentage in the before and after pics please?

If I start to work out my legs, realistically how much weight can I gain overall by workin my legs? Someone told me 20 lbs, that sounds like quite a lot!

considering that you gained 10 lbs just working out upper body, if you start working out legs hard, your gluts, quads, hams, calves can gain a shit load of weight. Also your body will grow with your legs. So 20 lbs can be gained from working out legs.
