I was downtown taking pictures of my kids when this guy asked if I wanted him to take a picture of me and the kids. This is the what I shot:

I am by no means Mr. Skilled Photographer like others here on OTAP, but what are the odds that the average person would be able to get a three year-old and a four year-old to look at the camera plus frame the marquee in the background?

Do people ask you if they can take your picture with YOUR camera? I could see if I asked somebody to take our picture, but why volunteer to use somebody else's gear? At least with digital cameras the image will be in focus. You should see some of the fail shots that people took with my 35mm cameras.

I ask people if I could take pictures with their cameras all the time.

Some people second guess me, and ask if I'm going to steal it :o

I don't understand, the guys asked you to take a picture with your camera of you and the kids

I only see the kids on the picture, you cropped yourself out or he framed 3 feet to the right?

No, I said no thanks and I pretty much always decline. The picture would've been me from the chest up, the heads of my two kids and a bunch of sky. I think I might start taking people up on their offers just so I can have a gallery of fail shots.

This is the last photo that somebody took of us:

The only reason it looks halfway decent is because the first one she took was me from the chest up, the heads of my two kids and a bunch of ceiling. I had to give the camera back to her and give her instructions. It would be different if I asked her, but she's the one who asked to take a photo and she can't even frame a shot.

This thread was supposed to be less of my rants and more of a poll to see what kind of results you guys get. My experience has been one bad photo after the next. The funniest is this blurry 35mm photo of me in a Cubs skybox with the field in the background. My co-worker insisted that she could take good pictures. I showed her the photo when I got the film developed and I told her this is why I don't let other people take my picture.

Now, if you want to take a picture of me with YOUR camera then I will smile and pose all day for you. I have never had a problem with that.

I ask if people want me to take their picture all the time. I was just in Yellowstone and literally took 30-40 pictures for couples and families. Takes me three seconds, they get a picture and I don't have to watch them do the stretched out arm thing.

I don't mind this if they don't know me, but the ones who show me while the d200 is around my neck crack me up.

It's like I can take pics with my d200 all day long but somehow I have no idea how to work a p&s.

    I offer all the time:dunno:

when I'm out somewhere and I see them doing the whole switching so that you can eventually get a photo of everyone I offer to take a group pic for them:dunno:

I've also been approached a few times and asked if I'd take a pic of someone with their camera. I guess my big camera around my neck attracts their attention:o
