Is anyone going to "upgrade" to the new 70-200 VRII?

I keep reading on photo forums that once this get around there will be old model 70-200s on the market...However, i just dont see that as being the case. Why would anyone want to spend $2400 on this new version. Ive read that some people on full frames notice more vignetting and with the older version vs the newer one... but im not sure people would want to spend that much for something so minor.

    :dunno:

It's not worth the upgrade, imo. I'm sure delivers really great quality but I just don't see myself spending that much on it. The 70-200 I have now is doing me just fine. That's D800 money....

there will always be people who upgrade to the newest and best, and I for one love them as they usually sell their old stuff for a really good price

meh. If I was in the market for one i'd look at this, but it's probably not worth the price to upgrade.

Although I did hear that the vignetting and corner softness in the first one could get pretty bad, depending on your copy...

I'm not a big VR user though, so i'd still probably hunt for a 80-200 AF-S, since they have no vignetting issues, amazing optics, and the silent wave motor for almost 1k less than the 70-200...

VRII is supposed to be pretty amazing. Nikon claims up to 7 stops on their other VRII lenses.

I'm not upgrading. I don't see it worth $1100 more than what I paid for the 70-200vr.

I might upgrade from my 80-200 af-s after 6 months and there is a good used market.

Not planning on it, maybe later. 70-200 is doing just fine for now.

My big question is, since most of my stuff is at night would I be better suited getting the new one. The older one is only availible as an import andnew from BNH. I have a D700.

I really don't want to spend a ton more when I can grab a used one that will serve me 90% as good. Hell I might even like the vignetting. :dunno:

my only gripe would be slow focusing and poor sharpness. My 85mm f/1.4 kills me some times with both at night shooting at f2.

I honestly don't think the 70-200vr will drop too much in price with the new one being $2400. The 80-200afs has held it's value pretty well too.

    Hey Adam,

how is 7 stops even possible?

cause wouldn't that be like 1/2 a second at 200mm?

    that would be nuts!

it's shorter, and lighter, and no vignetting on full frame cameras....yes there will be some people upgrading, and selling the original for probably 1400+. Enjoy the same market value on the lens as it's always been, I don't see hte used market taking a hit on the price of this lens.

probably what he shoots doesn't take advantage of the VR by being a "longer" exposure". If you're shooting at say 1/200 you're not gaining any benefit from the VR, so it doesn't matter if the lens has it or not. If you're attempting to shoot at 1/30 then that's a different story all together.
