IntelliJ IDE, it is fucking awesome for editing java and xml... It rules for Ant, because you can ctrl-click on variables and it will take you to the definition, it does the same in Java code too, kicks so much ass... I have tried Eclipse and it is similar, but not as easy to use. Also, 4.0 comes out on Jan 10th, has Weblogic integration, which I have sort of done by adding scripts and classes as external tools...

I use JBuilder 9. Kind of pisses me off because they inforce their auto formatting crap on you by default. It mangels all of your code, doesn't allow you to tab in jsps but you can in java files, and other shit like that. I've never found an easy way to turn this "feature" off without screwing up your key layout.

I really don't like Netbeans.. It's been taking up wayyyy too much memory on my machine for what it's doing..

I have been trying to find another one too. This is a good thread.

editplus with my own hacked syntax and autocomplete files ... I like autocomplete, but who the fuck wants every possible attribute spit out on every tag or statement you're building?

I think the main reason I don't like a lot of these IDE's is that they are written in Java and take up a lot of memory.. ugh. Computer soo slow with 512 and damn Netbeans running.

I like Eclipse. Of course I don't spend all day playing with different IDEs and don't want one I have to pay for so I have used very few. Of course I do very little work with Java now so I don't use Eclipse that much anymore.

Try Edit+. Loads up and runs as fast as Notepad. Plus it has gobs of features.

I'm not a fan at all of autocomplete. I can type just fine, thank you. :) I do worship Edit+'s syntax highlighting in multiple languages. Saves me a lot of time trying to troubleshoot something. The auto-indent gets on my nerves too, but I have it tweaked to my liking now. Its macros rock. I've got it setup to compile my Java with a key combo. I had another macro setup to take highlighted text and run it across the SQL server as a query (the idea being the highlighted text IS a query) and return the results in the result window. Lots and lots of stuff you can do with Edit+. The one thing really like about it is it does all this stuff, but it won't hold your hand and do it for you (unless you want it to).

the only thing i liked about jbuilder is that you can print out your source code as HTML file, i wonder if you can do same thing in eclipse

    :ugh:

jesus christ that program blows. our comp 150 (intro to programming) used that. i was lucky enough to TA that. fuck it SUCKED!!! students had no fucking clue how to even use the program. Instead i taught them how to use JCreator and write code instead of drag and drop and writing shitty bloated ass code.

i'd rather drink bleach then use bluej.

and netbeans runs fine on 512mb ram on win 2k or any linux box.
