Gonna have to bite the bullet and make another one of these threads. I'm looking for solid quality camera in the $300-$400ish range.

I'm a fairly new/beginner photographer on a budget, but I also want to be able to learn alot and not have a camera hold me back.

What are the things that I should be looking for?

    I've been looking at the Sony DSC-H5 ($429) and Canon S3-IS ($359)

    What would you recommend?

S3 IS. I'm not a big fan of the Sony's white balance control and their image quality at higher iso

S3 IS isn't bad. One of their standard S-series p&s's aren't bad either. My sister's S70 is pretty good for the price.

So.. what makes the S3 IS better?

seems like the h5 has more to offer.
