Everyones gonna say a shotgun for home protection, which I agree.

In my opinion I'd rather have the .40 over the .45 but I don't know much about the slimline gun. In fact I know nothing about the 36 at all.

i dont like the feel of glocks, so i cant help you there.

I do however own a couple 1911's. I dont like .40, too snappy for my taste.

be careful where you shoot though, drywall isnt a good bullet stopper. (the same can be said about shot, but not to the same degree)

i'd look into a nice shot gun for home defense. If you have to go with a pistol or dont have a shotgun yet (as is my case) then you should pick up some JHPs for in house shooting.

I have a .45 sig with 230gr JHPs and i'm fairly confident that if i have to use them inside, i wont do much/any damage to the neighboring apartments. I also have 6 of these glaser plastic tip, shot type rounds. I plan on using them in the summer since i've heard that even moderately thick clothes/leather will stop them.

Figure in the summer, people are less likely to wear leather jackets/sweaters.

If you're on the fence about both of them, go with the 40. Cheaper ammo and more capacity.

I'm a firm believer that, if you own a carry weapon, you should have it loaded with hollowpoints anyways..

I chose between the exact same Glocks about a month ago for carry. I like both the 40 and 45 rounds, other than these two calibers I wouldnt carry anything else but a 10mm. I was very set on the 27, but at the last second I held the 36 again and bought that. I am very glad I did. The gun conceals great and you can rely on the 45 for great stopping power. The slimline frame and slide are wonderful. Try to find a shop that you can hold both and you will see a big difference. My vote go's to the G36...

Why the 36 and not the 30? If you are considering a double stacked .40 (G27) why limit yourself with the slim 36? Might as well get the double stacked .45 since it's the same size as the 27 and have more ammo available ;)

Then down the road, if you decide to get a G21, you can use the larger mags in the G30 (backup weapon, etc...)

I have a G23 and G27 for just this reason. I usually carry the G27 and the G23 is in the car. I know that the G23's mags will work in the G27 if I need them.

3" mags are usually a touch longer than the 69mm chambering of the S12s.. they tend not to cycle especially reliably. 2 3/4" is at 60mm and rarely misfeeds ever. If you want more pellets, use Federals #1 buck in 2 3/4... 16 pellets @ 7.62mm :eek3:

they cycled ok for me in the 5 round mags. In the 10 rounders, it was about 70/30 missfeed/feed. (Federal 3" 00 buck that is)
