    In theory yes.

In actuality, nobody really knows yet.

All I know is that our hummers could barely hit 60mph up-armored. (This was 2005)

    damn, how up-armored?

we used to roll british in ireland style in our G-wagons, light armor but weapons 360 with overlapping arcs and a GPMG on top, this turned out to be a terrible idea as most contacts were IEDs and the G-wagon flips over like a little bitch in that terrain. Lesson learned though.

That's the old version of the RG31. We called those "rolling coffins" cuz there's no fucking way to get in/out of the driver's and TC's seats with all your armor and combat load without doing some major contortions. If we took an EFP behind the driver's seat and it changed the geometry of the truck, we'd pretty much cook before we could get out.

The newer RG31's have driver and TC doors.

yep, the old ones are not a favourite among the combat arms, but all the WOGs loved it (i guess it was comfy :mamoru: )

That can't be. The RG31 MK3 (the one in the post above) was more uncomfortable than the MK5 that came next. Combine that with the claustrophobia from feeling like you were sealed into the front end of a coffin ... I don't know anyone, at all, that liked the MK3.

lol I heard this exact discussion today when it came to a lighter vehicle for active patrolling in afghanistan and the logistics sgt maj was arguing with the infantry warrant about the 'usefulness and versatility' of the RG-31 and how much more suited to the terrain it would be compared to the G-wagon, well the warrant was getting pretty steamed and went on a 5 minute tirade about how > than the g-wagon /= suited to Afghanistan and how timmy never engaged the LAVs directly because they're scared shitless of em etc

That conversation ended with the warrant saying yes sir, which never happens between two enlisted old timers in my unit :o Movers vs people who have been couped up in an IFV with an entire section and their kit :mamoru:
