...honestly, I never thought that I would say this, but I'm getting tired of sitting at my computer for gaming / school / work... it gets old.

For the first time in about 7 years I'm considering swallowing my pride and getting a console. I prefer PC gaming by far, but along with being sick of sitting at a desk for hours, the market has been tremendously tilted towards consoles. There are literally 3-4 big PC releases a year (aside from MMO's) and not much else, while on consoles it seems there is at least 1 per month.

Now on to which one I should get...

-I really don't want to worry about my system being more likely to tank in a year than not (360).

-I really don't want a shitty online mechanic, well, shittier than consoles are already (PS3).

...I'm not really worried about price atm. I will probably end up getting either a new 360 or a used PS3.

    What's the consensus?

I hate shitty hardware, but shitty games online is just as bad.

EDIT: can anyone tell me specifics on why Xbox live is considered to be so much better than PSN? ...i mean it's not like one has actual servers and one doesn't right? they both are basically connecting you to some other idiot with low ping.

    look at upcoming software lineups
decide which one appeals to you more
    ???
    profit?

I like my PS3 because you have unlimited upgrade potential HDD speaking. XBOX you can only go as high as 120 while the PS3 can take whatever hard drive you can fit in it. I'm upgrading mine to 320 this christmas. All that space really lets me use my PS3 as a full on media center because I store movies and music on the hard drive that I can just turn on and play.

i dont get why ps3 online gets such a bad reputation. I never have trouble finding games and psn store is easy to navigate :dunno:

That sounds like a win, I'm looking to ditch my desktop and grab a cheap laptop so that would go nicely with that decision.

I do like the ps3 line-up much better, but if the actual ability to play the games is worse (online) than what's the point of having the system in the first place?

I'm liking the idea of the ps3 more and more, yet I feel like once i get it setup and actually go to play a game it will be :greddy:

...i'm probably just influenced by all the 360 fan boys.

if online gaming is a huge factor for, then avoid the ps3. this is what you'll find as far as there online community goes

as far as everything else, i'd say the ps3 is your best bet. seems like any good game worth a damn on teh 360 winds up on games for windows

if you want to mod it and burn games, you're limited to the 360

if you want to upgrade your hdd to more than 120 gigs and run linux or anything on it, you're limited to the ps3 (ps3 is also the only one you can websurf on, although if you have an actual computer i don't really see any reason to ever do it)

if you don't already have a blu-ray player then of course that's a bonus with the ps3.

online for both is good, but i HATE that there's no party system on the ps3.

playstation HOME is full of fail, but don't let that influence your decision either way.

main thing is to see what your friends have (if you plan on playing online games with friends), see which has the exclusives you want to play, and go from there. there's solid arguments to get both (which is why i have both)

    What's the party system?

and is the community really as dead as the dude with the Halo avatar :ugh: says?

EDIT: if only I could have the 360 with PS3 games / graphics / controller, or the ps3 with Xbox live for that matter....

you can invite other people (up to 6 people, i think, although it might be 8) into a party for voicechat. you can all chat while playing different games, and you can also invite everyone in the party to play the same game as well. what's nice about it (if you're all playing the same game) is that you can have it set to party chat, so you don't hear any faggot 13 year olds screaming "nigger" into their headset, and such.

another thing to consider is the controller. some people prefer one over the other. personally i think the ps3 controller is a bit too small, and i like the actual triggers on the 360 controller a lot more than the semi-triggers on the ps3 controller. if you play a lot of fighting games (tekken, street fighter, etc), and don't get an arcade stick to play them, then the ps3's d-pad is VASTLY superior.

*edit* and if you want to play racing games using a wheel, the 360 doesn't currently support the logitech g25, which is WAYYYY better than the microsoft wheel. although hopefully they'll have a better wheel available by the time the next Forza game hits :x:

You can always bet on MS to throw more money at developers for exclusives.

PS3 online isn't dead, the invite system just isn't as good as the 360's. You can still invite your friends from within most games, but not from the XMB.

The thing about 360's online being "better"

The ONLY thing that's better is the matchmaking (some PS3 games are fucking horrid). Lag, community, server size, server availability are all MUCH better on PSN.

16v16 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 5v5 any fucking day of the week, especially if you're used to PC gaming.
