I have a Core 2 Duo iMac with 2GB ram and 2.16ghz processor.

Today, my Mac took FOREVER to load and is making this weird noise as it is computing. I verified the permissions, verified the hard drive, look for anything weird in the Startupitems folder and its still doing it. I never had this problem and it never made this noise before. Someone help me please.

    What does it sound like?

Sounds like it could be the hard drive to me. They can make some damn odd noises. Plus there aren't many things that can move to make noise.

The noise is as if you gently tap on one of the keys on the keyboard.

Actually is like a cricket or something, but I don't know if its the hard drive 'cause the hard drive is making its own usual noise that's not a problem. This seem to be coming from the back, on the top left side when facing the screen.
