I joined a gym and have been pretty good about going at least 5 days a week. My main goal is to lose some weight right now and to lower by blood pressure which is a little high last time I had it checked. Right now all I've really been doing consistently is riding a stationary bike either one of the recumbent ones or the standard ones. I usually do about 10 to 12 miles in about 45 minutes after a warm up. But its getting really boring and i'm starting to lose my motivation.

My question is what else would be good for me to start doing as far as lifting some weights to mix things up a little bit. What would you suggest? Its been a really long time since I've really worked out at all so I don't really know what to do with myself.

Also what kind of cardio could I add since the bike is getting old?

Eliptical for cardio, bring a book to read if you do stationary bike.

As far as weight lifting, do the stickied routine.

Can me make "READ THE STICKYS BEFORE POSTING STUPID QUESTIONS" part of the name of this forum?

try the archives....lots of routines in there...

Also, you aren't going to turn into a BB'er overnight from doing that rouinte. However it is a well rounded routine I would recomend to anyone that is new to lifting.

if it's a commercial gym, try a spinning class.

I fucking hate cardio, i get bored out of my mind (TV and iPod doesnt even help).

I checked out a spinning class my gym offers and it's definitely my new favorite thing.

    1. tons of hot chicks/soccer moms
    2. time flies (45 minutes goes by so fast)
    3. low impact
    4. you control how hard you work (adjusting resistance)
    5. it helps having an instructor yell at you the entire time

it rapes my quads and some more advanced moves are pretty intense (they call it "jumping" here where you transition between in the seat and standing...think of doing box squats for 5 minutes)

disclaimer: i acknowledge that by engaging in cardio or class work that i'm not broly/a faggot/not elite/gay/etc. and that powerlifting gyms don't having spinning classes...this is merely a post to an alternative form of cardio
