My mom asked me to take this picture for her and her new husband last weekend. I'm not a huge fan of the picture anyways but I really don't like the wrinkles. Any good tip for smoothing them? I could close but that would take hours. Here's my quick attempt:

It pretty much blurred them more than smooth them out. I'm at a loss.

his fingertips went from in focus to out of focus... but her hand looks good. You should leave the nails a little more crisp. :dunno:

Maybe tomorrow I'll try seperating out his fingertips in a different layer.

What, give away my trade secrets? :nono:

There's lots of tools you can use. My two favorite to use are noise reduction then mask our the area's you want sharp. And Portraiture.

On this one, I duplicated the layers used Portraiture on the top one, then sharpened the bottom one dramatically with unsharp mask. Then I masked off the finger nails starting with ~10% opacity and built up until it looked natural.

Purchase Portraiture! It's worth every penny. http://www.imagenomic.com/pt.aspx

    I like my technique...

duplicate the base layer, then use the healing brush over all of the wrinkled areas... then just adjust the opacity of the duplicate layer. You want some of the wrinkles to show through, otherwise it just looks un natural.

I just did a shoot with my mom and her fiancee, and used this technique... I'll have to get a before and after to show how well it works.

Instead of duplicating the base layer just make a new layer and set the healing brush to sample all layers. This will keep the psd file smaller if you decide to save it.

dot. or a little clone stamp with opacity changes instead of healing brush.

Gaussian Blur/Surface Blur filter then use the History Eraser to "undo" the areas you want to be sharp. Adjust opacity to your liking.

    That's how I've done it.
