i have an animated gif that i need to shrink to 600kb, it's currently at 1.74mb. I have irfanview but i cant shrink it without stopping the animation. i tried some programs i got from googling but some wouldn't allow a gif that large.

You have to use a program specifically designed to edit animations. I use an old program called TakeONE to edit animated GIFs and icons, but I don't know if it can be downloaded anymore. Search download.com for "ANI Image Editor" or something along those lines.

Post the image, and we'll give it a try?

I use ULEAD GIF Animator 5, I know it's old. But it works.

All it really can do though is remove the unused colours from the GIF. Thus making the file size smaller.
