My laptop wont boot up. It goes thru all the motions but when it comes time for the desktop to come up it will stay blank. All the startup sounds come up but the desktop icons wont come up and i cant do anything. Is there anyway i can get it to work again. Thanx in Advance.

if you hear the startup sounds, then it is working. Could be faulty video card (usually built onto the mainboard, which sucks for replacement) or it could be a defective inverter or backlight.

Plug in an external monitor, and use the "display toggle" to try to get a picture on the external screen. If that works, the machine is okay, but the display is bad.

I tried the External Monitor. But the Problem isnt that its blank. But the Background Default "HP Invent" background is there. I can Ctrl Alt Delete and get into the task manager but all the desktop icons wont come up.

try the function F6 or F8 button, whichever one it is to switch between built in and external display. It sounds like it's trying to run the extended one as an extended desktop. One of the options should allow you to make the external the primary screen.

sounds like it's in multi-monitor mode, with the external display connected...

Open the display settings, and you can disable the laptops internal display.

This basically confirms that your inverter/backlight is bad.

sounds like a multi-monitor problem, do as someone said before (f6 or f8).

also if you just can't see icons, try booting into safe mode and see if anything happens there....if you haven't.

Perhaps Explorer isn't running? Press Alt-Ctrl-Del when you get to the blank screen to pull up task manager. Then click File -> New Task. Type in explorer.exe and press enter.
