    I have a HP Pavillion ZV5000 laptop.

it currently has 512meg of ram in it. 2 256 DDR SDRAM @333mhz

One of the chips are set into the motherboard, and the other one is in the memory slot on the back.

I am looking at this: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85016-72

    it is a 1gig DDR2 533mhz chip.

my question I know this is a better chip, but will it work or even mess up my laptop by putting it in?

    thanks in advance.

It probably won't work. DDR and DDR2 don't mix well. Your laptop may not even support it.

I want to put a 1gig stick in my laptop to upgrade it, can someone point me in the direction of one that is compatable, and is a good deal price wise?

    thanks
