Wondering what yall would recommend as far as purchasing a Glock. Gonna use it for "home protection" and also for a concealed weapon after taking the class. Any recommendations??

Is the Glock 18 only for Military/Government purchases only of can a civi buy it somewhere?

Yes the G18 is LE/MIL only, I don't think there are any transferable ones in existence. If you are new to shooting I would reccomend the G17 or G19, both will suit your purposes just fine. I suggest checking out the Springfield XD line also :bigthumb: Your best bet is to find a local range that rents guns and test fire whatever you are interested in, that is the best way to find out whether suits you the best before you drop the money and then realize whatever you purchase doesn't suit you.

Glock 19 or 26 if used for concealed carry, but it all depends on your size and what feels right in your hands.

the 23 and 19 are the same size, and is by no-means small. It's a great size, imo.

    I guess you've never tried a glock 30

My G17 is a great gun for home defense and now that hi-cap mags are cheap again. 18 to 20 rounds are possible.

Its in all glock threads because it needs to be know, I have fired full size GLocks, but the Glock 23 handle is 2"+ at least shorter and if you dont have bitch hands my last two fingers hang off the end of my friends Glock 23 and it makes it harder to shoot accurately.
Its not the frame.. just the handle is shorter

buy a glock 23 or 22 then later down the road buy a 40. to 9 mm barrel conversion and a magazine, that way you dont have to decide on 23/19 or 22/17.some people upgrade the spring, ejector, and extractor it's not necessary but it makes for a perfect conversion all together 200bucks and you get the best of both worlds.

Do you mean Glock 27? The 23 is just a tad bit smaller than the 22 (full size .40)

The G23/G19's grip is only about 1/2" of an inch shorter and the slide is only 1/2" shorter than the G22/G17. Check out www.glock.com for specs.

    ...

How can you pretend to know anything about the glock 23 and not know where the model # is etched?

I dont recall commenting on anything but the size of it and how it fits in my hand.. both of those do not require to know that a model # being on it.. its not my gun. I dont recall claiming to be a glock expert... care to help me out on WTF you are talking about?

THE BOTTOM LINE ON THE GLOCK 23 GRIP.. I MUST NOT BE THE ONLY ONE WITH A PROBLEM OF THE GRIP BEING TO SHORT SINCE THEY MAKE GRIP EXTENSIONS TO MAKE IT LONGER

Thank you and please drive through...

they make +2 extensions but really i have never seen someone not be able to comfortable handle a glock 23 comfortably. I haven't ever seen someone whose finger(s) fall off of the grip either. You must have some HUGE hands.

I do have big hands and I figured using logic that they would not manufacture grip extensions if no one had a problem with fingers hanging off the end of it.. I am not the only one.
My XD fits my hands perfectly.. but I never bashed glocks just pointed out that the G23 has a shorter grip, which by design is not for people with big hands
