I recently bought a dual layer NEC DVD burner off newegg and it didn't come with any software or anything, just the burner in the box. I installed it by just replacing my old CD burner, hooked up the same cables. My computer is only showing my DVD-ROM drive though and when i choose to eject it, both of the drives open up. What did i do wrong? Also whats a good DVD burning program, im gonna go to best buy tomorrow to buy one, i want to be able to make menus and chapter lists so i need DVD-R's right?

Did you set the jumpers on the drives - one to master and one to slave?
Then at startup go into the BIOS and make sure they are being detected in CMOS

Sounds like a jumper issue. Make sure the jumper on the new drive is set the same as the replaced drive and you should be good to go.
As for software, for backing up DVDs I use DVD Shrink and Nero to burn.
DVD Shrink is free and Nero came with my burner.
As far as authoring menus and what not, I'm not sure.
