i have a wacom pad that has a serial port. unfortunately my laptop does not have a serial port. so i bought a serial to parallel converter, then hooked the pad up to the computer. when i install the wacom pad driver, it wont recognize the pad in any ports.

any help? do i need to get a serial to usb converter?

    thanks!!

Is this some sort of intelligent converter that allows your parallel port to speak RS232? If not it isn't going to work.

What you might want to look into getting is a USB RS232 serial port device.

i dont think its an intelligent converter at all, just a straight up db9 to db25 converter.

so a direct usb to serial will work?

Serial ports come in 25 and 9 pin so I'm sure all that does is convert between the two. Since it doesn't really make your parallel port act as a serial, the tablet's not going to find it. Get a USB serial port adapter. You'll load drivers so that your computer now has a serial port. ie. COM3, COM4, etc. As long as you can assign the port a COM port number that the tablet can talk to, you should be good to go.
