3 years ago during thanksgiving i was flying back home. i was at the screening place and they stopped me. i had a knife in my backpack. i completely forgot i had it in there. i thought i took it out a while ago. anyway, i got a misdemeanor and had to do 120 hours of community service. i got the misdemeanor under penal code 171.5(b). is there a way i can get this off my record?

wtf they actually charged you with a crime/ They didnt just take the item?

fuck that noise! 120 hours of community service is a SHITLOAD! 3 full work weeks? damn

it MIGHT go off eventually after a set amount of time, or talk to the DA.

if you went to court already and got your sentencing then i think it's on your record. you should've gotten a lawyer to knock that out for u.

wow. they just held the stuff for a family member when that happened to me. Granted, it was a while ago (several years).

Yeah but in some cases you can opt out of paying a large fine vy doing community service.
When my friend got an underage drinking ticket last year he had the choice to either pay $100 or work for 10 hours.

The court here had you work for $10 an hour to pay back your debt. If so, then that woulda been a hugeass fine

BTW did they ever say anyhting about court supervision or if you kept out of trouble for a few months it would be expunged?
Man. Seems harsh punishment for accidentally bringing a knife into there. You never actually brought the kinife onto the other side of the checkpoint did you? Thats just ruhtarded

If you are convicted you have to file for a pardon from the governer.. then get it expunged.. takes years..

i feel ya dog. i got a misdemeanor trumped up charge a year ago and got community service too. here is the big thing about it. when you went to court, did you make a plea or did they just say "we'll give you x hours of community service"

in my situation, there wasnt ever a plea so as soon as i did the community service, i got it expunged. no plea = i wasnt found guilty or not guilty. so its much easier to have something removed from your record. you should be able to go to the courts office and see a clerk about an expungement form and to see if you are eligible. all mine consisted of was having the judge sign it saying its ok to expunge it b/c i did my community service

wow that sucks. last year i changed into my jeans that has a knife clipped onto it without thinking and the 3rd time i walked through the metal detector and set it off they found it when they wanded me. I told them I had a friend that lived 5 minutes from the airport and that he would come and pick it up, they gave it back to me and escorted me to the exit. Maybe because I don't look like a potential terrorist? :dunno: This was at SFO, too
