i'm pissed i bought a new hd (wester digital, external) 500gb and put a ton of crap on there and a week later, i believe it has crashed on me.

when i turn it on/connect it, whatever, the disk shows up in My Computer but w/o its old name. When I try to open it it asks "This disk is not formatted, do you want to format it now?"

Whats going on? Is it time to run a recovery program? And which one?

    OK.

Get GetDataBack for NTFS (or FAT if you formatted it with that FS on it). I *think* you will need to reformat it (choose quick format) before GetDataBack will be able to read it, but that may not be the case.

Either way don't put ANYTHING on that drive before you are completely finished trying to recover stuff.

    Good luck :)

All you need is for a single 0 to become a 1, or a 1 to become a 0, and it's all over.
