I weigh about 225 lbs. and I'm pretty strong already. I just got a job installing granite counter tops and that involves a lot of heavy lifting. I am hoping to get on a diet that would help me lose my gut and build muscle at the same time, using my job as the exercise. I don't drink or use drugs, but I do smoke cigarettes. About a pack a day.

My current diet consists of chicken strips for breakfast, (about 3 hours after I wake up). A double cheeseburger and fries off the gut wagon for lunch, and 4 or 5 McDonald's double cheeseburgers for dinner around 8PM. I drink a ton of water, and that is the only form of liquids I drink. I don't drink soda or juice. I already know that McDonald's is part of the problem, but I'm also concerned about what I should be eating for breakfast and lunch.

Should I eat breakfast before I go to work? (As opposed to eating at my first break)
Should I be doing push-ups and crunches after work?
What else should I be doing in addition to the exercise I get at work and the suggested diet plans?

Goal: Build muscle and lose about 20 or so pounds.

Any help I can get as far as a good diet and exercise plan to help me lose fat and gain muscle would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for helping a noob!

i was in your shoes about 6 months ago. i'm now at 185 and still cutting. diet diet diet diet. if you don't change what's going into your body, you can't change your body. that's first. no macdonalds, no cheeseburgers and fries. no chicken strips.

if you can't change that, then theres no changing anything else. g'luck.

Yeah, but I need suggestions for what types of food to eat instead. That way I can buy the right stuff and get on track.

What is good to eat for breakfast that would give me the energy I need and help build muscle? What types of food should I bring for lunch and what should I eat for dinner to reach my goal?

All I'm asking is what types of food I should eat in order to lose fat and build muscle. Are you guys really that fucking cool that you can't give a helpful answer?

if you want muscle lift weights. Youre not going to get it doing pushups and granite countertops. If you had common sense or even spent a few minutes reading you would know that.

read read read and get a sub and search.

    and quit smoking cigs.

i quit cold turkey on 2/18 and haven't had one since. for the first couple of weeks i kept thinking to myself "man, i could really go for a cig."

every time i thought that, i did ten pushups or situps. not like you'll see any gains from that but it'll help you take your mind off the shit. occasionally i still think that but its easier now just to say "fuck it, i feel better now than i did when i was smoking" and that be the end of the craving.

I'm not going to lie when I say this: I have never, EVER seen a thread on F&N, or even OT, where some one had a diet as bad as you do. That diet is a straight shot to the grave.

Ditch EVERYTHING you eat. Everything. And replace it with Pur's diet in the stickys. You'll drop weight like its going out of style if you stay active.

You'd lose 20lbs by just not going to McDonalds and eating semi-decent lean burgers.

Thanks! I've been doing some more research and I've come up with something like that.

    Breakfast: oatmeal, glass of milk
Lunch: tuna or chicken salad,12 grain bread x2, banana
Dinner: Chicken or salmon, rice, vegetable
    All day: water

I like your ideas better. Thanks again!

BTW: The diet I posted in the original post was on my worst day. I'm not denying that I eat that shit, because I do. I don't eat that poorly every day though.

As of a couple days ago, I've cut out all the McDonald's. I went shopping and I bought much healthier foods than I usually buy. Once I adjust to this diet, I'll work on the smoking.

    @ Layne: 72 inches

Someone told me today that I could "really yolk up" because of my body type. Let's see how this new diet goes and maybe I'll get into lifting.

Edit: I woke up at 11AM and ate a small chicken sandwich and a green tea for lunch. For dinner I had a piece of chicken (no skin), rice, 4 celery sticks with peanut butter. I drank water all day, like I usually do. I'm not really hungry to be honest, but I'm not full.

just eat clean and only eat until you are no longer hungry

and everytime you think about heading to mcdonalds, just remind yourself that each of those burgers has 460 calories, 26 grams of fat, and 37 carbs, and 8 grams of sugar.
