I am planning on purchasing a netbook or a laptop. I have not completely decided yet. Currently I am looking at a budget of around $450 dollars.

I have been looking around different places but so far I am not finding that shouts at me to buy it.

So far I have been checking out eeePC 1000HE, Gateway and a Refurb Dell laptop. What do you guys I should go with?

Purpose for the laptop is do some SQL work using Toad or SQL Workbench, do some coding using Visual Studio 2008, listen to music using iTunes, and surf the web. Sometime all at the same time. Also I prefer the screen not to be greater then 13 inches.

I have also listed below the Laptops and Netbook. I have been looking into. Also I am open to suggestions as well. Thank you in advance for your advice.

I've got a Dell Mini 9 and used it to take notes in class and for random internet when I was away at school. I used it a lot for that but I can't imagine using it for much else and since being home I find that I'm using my mom's MacBook Pro anytime that I want to be portable. If you need to be ultra portable the netbooks are the way to go but if you're going to be staring at the screen all day go as big as you can.

if your budget is $450 why are you even considering buying a netbook and limiting yourself? Wait for a good ad from best buy and get one of the $399 laptops that show up on a basically biweekly basis, much more bang for the buck and you wont end up havin to buy an external dvd drive later when u wanna use it (and u will at some point).

That's a good point...here's a link with some cheaper laptops to get an idea of what you can get for ~$450

Lenovo S10-2 is coming out soon. I'd get that.
