A friend game me 500.00 to build a pc, and whatever is left I can keep. He needs everything but a case and memory. I have 4 gigs of dual channel 3200. It will mainly be used for internet and playing some of the Sims games.
So i need cpu, mobo, video card, PS and hard drive.

The consensus seems to be that an Intel motherboard with a Core2Something processor is a good backbone. Get a Seagate hard disk, don't bother with any of the other brands, Seagate has a solid reputation for a reason and their disks have 5 year warranties to back it up. I'd like to say "get a Corsair power supply", but I don't know if you'll have enough cash for that; maybe the 450W unit is within your budget. Gaming demands a dedicated video card, so pick up a halfway-decent nVidia card. Since you have to have a DVD drive, pick up a Lite-On drive in an appropriate color.

fortron psu is more budget-friendly and very reliable.

Do your friend a favor and do NOT be a douche. Spend the entire $500 on him.

that psu is fucktastically shitty. you should be on global-ignore for suggesting it.

also abit != good idea for a budget build.

Ram rated at 3200 is probably DDR1, so you'll need new DDR2 ram.

Is there anything we can do to keep Potty from integrating obscenities into normal words whenever he has the chance?
