Currently i have a single HD partitioned into 2 (c: & d:) i want to format the c: (which has the OS on it) but dont know if that would also rid me of my d: partition

i also heard that you can use your xp disk to perform a new/fresh install of xp (repair?) w/o loosing any data that would involve renaming the prog file and that the new install rids the old xp install w/ a new one?

Im not completely computer illiterate, so any suggestions would be helpfull.

cliffnotes: Basically trying to keep my d: from being deleted. Im not sure if both or only the c: will be gone forever, thx in advanced.

Your D: will be fine. Just make sure you are clear on which drive it is formating. Drive letters can sometimes change. Verify the correct drive by its name or partition size.

Just boot with the windows CD, and go SLOW. The options are clear if you spend a little time reading the menu
