So I'm in dc doing an internship now. it's unpaid, so i don't have money to join a gym. the apt i'm living in has dumbbells up to 50 ( :ugh: ) and various machines. i need help designing a workout so my lifts don't go to shit.

that's right, no oly bar or anything.

The gym i signed up to costed around $300 for the first month, including sign up fee, etc :wtc: It's also $80 a month, and i have a 1 year plan. At least i'm getting a $90 refund for going to the gym for at least 3 times a week for 8 weeks (i got all of em filled up lol). It's about 1-2 minutes away from my house walking, has a pool, tanning, sauna, steam room, multiple jacuzzi and plenty of other weird shit, including outside/inside tennis courts, basketball courts, places to play squash and other shit...yoga rooms and all these other weird programs. Sports and Health...figures :wtc:

I did that for awhile at gold's, but the hours were starting to kill me. They only wanted me working until close + 8 hour weekend shifts. That's 6am-midnight 2 days during the week and then the weekend.

what do you consider "high volume"? 15 reps? 20 reps?

for me lifting 50 lbs. for any muscle or muscle group will fatigue at 20-25 reps.

also as another tip, sometimes u can hold two dumbbells in one hand.
make a + sign with the handles and try to hold them together.
i use to do that but with really light dumbbells- this may work and also help your grip get stronger
