I run a small forum for some of my RL friends. Recently we have had a visitor who has been posting on my forum, but i dont know who he is. He has different IPs (none match any of my other users) Recently hes been quite rude, and i just would like to know who it is. I am really curius if its somebody we know or a complete stranger who accidently found my site.

The question: How do i find out info about this person, using his IP adress?

    Thanks before hand.

    Other than his ISP, nothing.

sometimes you can get the city from the ip address... search google for visual trace route.

or go to start->run -> "cmd"
and type 'tracert ipaddress'.. bunch of stuff will show up
this will give you some clue to where the user is located, for instance i did it on a counter-strike server located in texas and one of the last entries was.. blahblah.blah.dllstx2.theplanet.com, so its somehwere near dallas :)

why not ask him? rudeness is hardly illegal

you can get some info about his provider by plugging the ip into "domain dossier"

Well most people nowadays have dynamic IP's even with DSL lines and you usually have to pay for a fixed IP so the "ban IP" doesnt work as well right now as it used to. But like col_panic said, just ask him/her

The city means nothing. My IP shows my city being 50 miles to the North.

Are you trying to fucking stalk this guy? Don't be stupid, just ban him.

Way to pay attention buddy. He's saying he can't ban him because his IP address keeps changing, and there's likely nothing stopping the guy from just making a new username if his current one gets deleted.
