    i have an 867mhz powerbook g4 12inch

i start the thing up and i get the gray screenfor a while and itll go to the apple and just stop with nothing spinning below

and the hard drive keep making the same repetative clicking noise so im assuming is dead

is there anything else it could be?

im going to try and hook up an external hard drive when i get home, so if that boots up i can be pretty sure the HD is dead right?

anywho, i want to get like an 80 or 100gb and install it myself, anyone know any good deals?

If you have access to another mac you can try taking out your hard drive placing it in an external enclosure and connect it via usb to your other mac.
    Your way works also. :)

    Also try Disk Warrior: http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/

Newegg usually has good hard drive prices.

if you have the orginal MAC OS X disks that came with your computer or 10.4 Disk. boot up from that and then when your in the meuns to install MAC OS X click on "file" I think and run disk utility from there run the "Verifiy disk" option. that will tell you if your HD is screwed
