Being just 5'7 and 120 lbs (and the mma runt of the gym lol), I've been instructed to focus on getting the back, work my way back to standup, use open guard more, and just use my speed to scramble off my back to a better position.

So far I've been doing pretty well, and I've gained tons of confidence on the mat with bigger and stronger opponents. I am spending less time being on my back...as I become more proficient in working my out from under.

So far these moves worked very well for me as the smaller guy rolling with a bigger brute:

    - half guard
    - open guard
    - rubber guard
    - triangle chokes
    - flying armbar / triangle transitions
    - no hooks when I have someone's back
    - americana

Do you guys have any suggestions on aspects that I need to focus on or add to my game that can help me out be more aggressive?

Hit the gym and get some food in you. I can't imagine you have very many opponents anywhere near your size at that height/weight.

I'm doing my best to bulk and eating like a motherfucker...but like the FN guys would say...it's genetics. I have very fast metabolism.

oh, and the main reason why I don't hook when I have someone's back...I get rolled over by easy when I try to hook into someone who's doing turtle. Hooking never really worked for me unless I have a choke sinked in deep and I need the leverage to finish things. Keeping my legs posted works for me because I have a better chance of mounting the dude when he tries to roll.

Im trying to improve on my arm drags...because I fall into a guillotine most of the time when I go for them.

    So any suggestions technique-wise?

There's your problem, you should get some formal bjj training.

And how do you end up in the gullotine when you do an arm drag?

dude you're not doing formal training

could that be why your ground game is not technically tight by chance?

I have this bad habit of sticking my neck out in the open, either that or my movements are too telegraphed that my opponent can prepare to catch me as I move under his arm. This usually happens when we roll from a dig.

I'll look into the local ATT school here in my town and see if they can cut me a discount for formal classes, since their fighters cross train for striking at my gym.

that was pointed out already...and its a big hole in my game as I've come to realize. I can do the basic moves with ease, but its adding everything up and doing transitions is where I suck at big time.

My trainer noticed that I can put a guy in a position for a submission or choke, but I fail to sink it. He'll be drilling me more often, and working on my technique.

I used to be the class grappling dummy, and would be on my back most of the time. When we rolled I would always end up trying to scramble for position until the bell rang. As soon as I got more mat time and instruction...I began to get a lot of confidence becoming more aggressive, and start to look for submissions than just try to get some dude off of me lol.

Now I'm really seeing that its time for some serious bjj classes, or focus on drills and stuff, since I've overcome my frustrations with grappling because of my size.

If you're not getting bigger your not eating enough.

I went from 125 to 175 over the course of 3 years and am still tiny. Keep eating, keep lifting and keep resting. I can't grow is an excuse for whiny faggots.
