well first off are these crap? or not really?

kay and then can anyone explain to me what and when you would use some of them? from my understanding a uv protractor is simply there to protect your lens right?

oh and how much do you think their worth? he was telling me how he has probably $5,000 in total just in filters  man i feel like such a dumb ass talking to him.

    tiffen > promaster > sunpak

tiffens are very nice filters. promasters are hoya i believe. also good filters. im not sure on the sunpak ones tho. still tho, thats a damn good assortment of filters.

the red orange and yellow filters are for black and white. each one enhances a differt part of you picture. if you google black and white filters you can get a lot of info on when to use them.

the UV ones help reduces haze, and protect your lens.

polarizers reduce glair, lets you see thru reflective surfaces, and enhance color saturation. go outside and turn it as you look thru it, some cool stuff.

tiffen are alright, i didnt see a noticeable difference between those and some of the higher priced ones. I especailly wouldnt recomend somebody new to photography to spend 80$ for a CP
