Just fresh installed XP on a new toy I got (thinkpad x31). I'm wondering what are some good computer protection softwares that don't intrude too much. I really don't need much as I'm only using this laptop to take notes and travel, and once I get my battery life issues figure out in Ubuntu I probably won't boot up much into XP.

Also can someone point me to a good guide of what services etc to disable so that XP doesn't clutter itself up as time progresses?

leave the services alone unless you need to disable one (and have a specific reason for doing so)

I have been using nLite for building XP install discs for years.
This is as simple and easy of a program as you are going to find for this - and it is free.
