I'm looking at a white Koral MKM Competition Gi...but I want to know what you guys would suggest. What kind of weave should I be looking for?

I kinda see how important it is to have a gi which isn't easy to grab on to :o

i have had vulkans, korals, keiko raca and a ouano gi's

for training i love the vulkan and koral... but after the 3rd or 4th wash the collar becomes softer and easier/more corfortable to grab

for what ever reason my keiko and ouano gi have very stiff collar and so far they have stayed stiffer in comparison to teh koral and vulkan... i also noticed it was harder for people to choke me when i was wearing my keiko and ouano gi's

all 4 of the gi's i have are more of a bjj cut, so teh sleeves are much more fitted... which i think it a good thing.. as there is less fabric for the other guy to grab... i would grab my friends judo sleeve and my hand would have a
pistol grip....i couldnt do taht on my friends "bjj" cut gi

I was just thinking of picking up a Koral MKM competition in white.

I dunno how obnoxious that would seem being new to the sport and all...I don't wanna roll into class with logos on my gi and have the blues/purples looking at me like :hsugh:

I hate my current light weight gi though :o

I just bought a Vulkan Ultra Light and I am really impressed with it. It is supposedly the lightest competition gi you can own.

I also use an Atama Mundial gi quite frequently and it is also a great gi. Never shrunk on me.

Other gis I own that I dont recommend:

Keiko Raca - Rubber shoulder patches get in the way. Pants have a low crotch.
Dragao - Shrinks too much. Pants are MC Hammer'ish. Not readily available in the US.
Fuji - Cheap and the top shrinks down to almost elbow length after a while. Hasnt ripped yet though.

I dont know why you guys are going to buy competition model Koral gis.

The only difference between them and their regular gis is a few patches... Just stick with the basic koral gi and you'll be fine.

I stick by my Koral basic gis. It isn't about looking fancy, especially when you can't back it up :p

Are the new ultra-lights any good for competition?

The only reason why I'm being anal about a gi for competition is that I pretty much understand now how the gi is a weapon that you can use...and be used against you. In my gi fight...the stiffness of the judo gi saved my ass from being choked out completely, so it does play an important piece of my game at this point.

    Wrong attitude.

Learn to defend chokes, not use a stiff collar'd gi to defend them for you. Or better yet, be offensive and don't worry about getting choked.

Get a gi that is comfortable and that fits you. Quit worrying about using it to cheat your way out of a submission. Learn defense. Gi's dont win/lose fights. Technique does.

This is the other thing too...I have no gi in my possession that fits me properly. The camo gi shrunk in fucking cold water and now I look like a karate dude

Technique and skills is on my list...but I want to slay my opponents in style too.

If only LV made a camo gi...

If you buy a real gi (not a $19 camo gi) - the company will have a sizing chart you can use. Just find a gi you like in a price range you like and buy it. Don't be so worried about the look, the weight, the collar stiffness, etc. Just grapple and learn to defend gi chokes.

I've heard good things about them.
