i posted this in the main forum but then i remembered body mods was here...figured id get more help here

So I know i definitely want a tattoo, but i don't want to get one until i'm absolutely sure about what i want. I have a general idea/background to what i am going to get, but dont know how to put it into picture form.

Several years back, my father, sister, grandmother, and I went on a vacation around the country visiting places like the grand canyon, yellowstone, rushmore, etc. The day before we were to return home, my grandmother fell asleep at the wheel on a highway in kentucky and the Ford Turtletop conversion van rolled several times. The roof broke off and my sister, father, and I were ejected from the van onto the grass next to the road. My sister suffered and is still suffering from severe brain damage and parylization. My fathers back, shoulders, and ear were severely injured. My grandmother got a lot of serious bruises because she stayed in the vehicle due to her seatbelt. I on the other hand ended up with nothing more than a small scratch on my foot.

This event has changed my entire life and I would like to put it into a piece of art. The only problem is, i dont know how to express it. I feel as if there was something protecting/guarding me from being hurt. I sort of feel like it is because i'm meant to do something big, or i have a purpose in life.

If you guys have any ideas at all, throw them out there for me. I'd like to get the tattoo in the middle of my back, or on my side (rib area)

cliffs: had serious car accident, everyone was injured pretty bad (sister got the most, serious brain trauma) except for me. i'd like to get a tat that symbolizes protection/purpose

yeah i know what you mean, it is a little cliche to just go right to an angel, but that is just what came to my head right away

What about some other guardian/protector symbol, a lion? a griffin? a shield? :dunno:

what about wings surrounding something. that was what came to my mind as far as the guardian idea. not so much an angel but primarily the feathered wings surrounding something to protected. what to have it protect would need to be something that related even more to you.

    That's a good idea.

I was thinking something similar - do a bit of research and look for historical symbols of protection and immortality (sort of deal).

    i like this idea....
the company that made the van a conversion van was called turtle top. i was thinking maybe like a turtle shell protecting me or something, but maybe that'd look a little silly

i feel like the idea is a little cliche, but maybe i could work something out with one of them. ive wanted a tattoo for a long time, but i just want something really meaningful and different, so thats why i'm waiting until i'm absolutely positive with what i want.

where do you plan on getting this tattoo?

if its chest or back, i have an idea.

kinda like Moses parting the sea, you could have yourself in the middle, but say, fire, avalanches, and roughly any other deathly image off to the side as you stand in the middle

if i were you i'd look more at the "meaningful" than the "different"

i'm sure that most people look at my tattoos and think they aren't original, but if they are meaningful to me, that's what matters. it's my body, so if it makes me happy . . .

that being said, i really have no ideas for you. have you googled the word "protection" to see what ideas and images come up?

what about using the word protection rather than an image? the word protection in a script you like or in another language?

  23. I like this idea and the shark can be the car that flipped over but its like a mix between the car and the shark. That would be sweet.
