Are you just after more space?

    lose the door mat/shoes
    hang the mirror
push the standing lamp back against the wall
put the table/chairs further into the corner

it looks big enough, just a bit cluttered.

Not sure why the lamp is positioned there. I would have put it in the corner.

Table and chairs are out way too far. How many people are living there? One? Two? If only two, it could be pushed right in to have access for only two chairs, and pulled out when necessary. If more then two, it can still be pushed back a foot or two which would open up the kitchen. Not sure a round table is ideal for the space either, but that's a different matter.

wife moved the lamp... don't know why and we had some guests over recently so the table was pulled out.

If i put some kind of seating in front of the sliding glass door would that look weird?

Rug and shoes are there because we take our shoes off in doors.

Yeah. I don't think the space is big enough to be blocking a door. But that's just my personal taste.

I think the rug looks totally out of place. Doesn't it serve the same function as those tile panels??? Plus it just looks like a bathroom mat.

I agree with the other sentiments. If the poster in the back is important enough to hang, I'd get it framed. Kind of generic artwork, but I've got something similar in the back over my couch, too. Just go to Hobby Lobby or somewhere and pay like $30 for it to be framed & matted.

I agree with putting the table against the wall and putting only 2 chairs out for it.
Get rid of rug, hang mirror, consider putting something over the TV.

Can the lamp squeeze behind the futon on the other side?

I lived in apartment with the door by the TV and I hated it.

lose the mirror; it's not doing anything but taking up space there.

the floor mat is in a weird place and it's obtrusive. your guests have the tiled area to take their shoes off. If I were you, I'd buy a cheap shoe rack to put against the kitchen partition near the door.

put the lamp in the corner near the couch. It's just getting in the way where you have it now.

I don't suppose you could replace some of the furniture? Black is a very heavy color for a space that small; the blue futon isn't helping either...particularly with that light carpet and white walls.

Also, unless you're going to frame that poster and hang it, I'd just take it off, because it looks haphazardly stuck there and it's not even centered over the couch.

The way the door opens there isn't enough room to step in and take off your shoes and close the door at the same time. I'll probably look for a nicer rug to put at the door instead of the ugly bathroom rug.

I plan on buying a different couch and possibly some more seating.

Keeping the TV stand and dining table, although I tend to agree the color isn't the best.

Frames and some decent pictures are on the way.

I don't like the living room layout, but the bedroom is really nice and spacious and the place has a really convenient location so that's why we got it.

Don't get another rug. Try to get a stand-up shoe holder thing.

just cluttered. Got space saving stuff in there, just needs a move around

Maybe square table though? Can be more useful pushed into a corner.
