help me lower my body fat %

    i'm 19, i'm currently at 13% body fat, i weigh 121 lbs, and am 5'6". my body fat was measured using a skin folds test by my walking instructor at school. i currently walk about 6-10 miles, 3-5x a week, however, i want to increase my general muscle tone, and drop my body fat % to a lower grade so i look leaner. i also practice a vegan lifestyle (no animal products), so, sometimes getting what i need isn't always the easiest thing, however, i'd like some pointers just to lower my bf% and to tone up.

    anything would be great! :)

    they get it from soy...:hsugh: so thats whjat you will have to do.
    Please for the loove of god do a normal weight routine too, where you do Bench, Squat, and Deadlifts, and not hip abductors or the such. You will be doing yourself a favor by lifting like anyone else would.

    i swim occasionally and run only once in a while. i have exercise induced asthma, so it causes problems sometimes. i also work on a x-trainer from time to time.

    what type of lifting should i be doing? i hear low weights, high repetition is the best way, not sure about that.

    i want better muscle tone over all, and i think once i shed the excess fat, it will help show off what i already have.

    i get it from soy, from nuts, beans, and protein shakes. i just have to watch my daily amount.

    how much should i be looking to get?

    13% isn't bad at all for a girl. You probably just don't have much muscle. Start with rows and squats. You don't have to really exert yourself or anything. Just do the moves slow and controlled, squeezing at the top of the lift and hold for a couple seconds, but don't lock your joints. Start with weights that are a bit tougher than easy. Some girls feel like they should lower the weights after the first rep. Don't be afraid of failing. Attempt to finish a set. If you can't, that's when you should lower the weight.

    13% is really quite low for a girl

    I'd just lift weights, full body workout, twice a week

    13% sounds freakishly low for a girl. Any lower and you'll like a guy :p

    As for squats and deads... I can very short breathed after a few sets of those so I'm not sure how much of them you can handle. Do take it easy though at first and steadily increase the weight you use.

    Yeah 13% is pretty low for a girl, any lower and you might not have periods..........

    Lifting weights shouldn't cause asthma, like walking or swimming should.

    haha, i'm not ready to post body pictures.. not out of clothes anyway :wiggle:

    i have some general muscle tone- the only places i really have fat anymore is on my chest :naughty: and some on my hips.

    as far as losing my period, i really wouldn't mind. i read that its healthy as long as i stay active, which i plan on doing.

    thank you for the suggestions so far. i definitely need to do some squats, as i have NO ass. :cool:

    soy protien is an incomplete protien lacking l-lysiene and soemthign else, necessary to bind it to the msucle.

    13% is way to lean for a girl, dont start missing periods, and messing up your natural endo system balance.

    Losing your period is not healthy, its a sign your body is shutting down because it is not getting enough energy input to complete its functioning properly... :ugh2:

    first off, you're not 13%...get yourself a new "walk" partner or whatever the fuck you said because he's grabbing your elbows and measuring, your hip bones and knee caps. You're about 18-20 at best.

    i was measured twice. by my trainer and by my instructor at school. but thats right, you know everything.

    You don't need to lose fat, you need to gain some muscle. Read the articles vettedude posted and listen to them.
