Im considering two DSLR's but can't quite decide which one would be the best bang for the buck: D70 or 20D. The main uses will be sunsets, scenary, car photos, action shots (sports) and random pics.

I currently work with Nikons and prefer the direction of zoom on the lens as opposed to the Canon but the Canon does 5fps vs. 3fps and is 8mp vs. 6mp. The d70 doesn't go down to ISO 100; the Canon uses CMOS vs. CCD. These are all things i've considered but I need to determine if they are relative to my uses. Is CMOS better/worse than CCD; is ISO at 100 that important for "general" use? Do I really need 2 more megapixels?

If I could afford the 20D, I would have gotten it over the D70. However, at $903 for the kit, I couldn't pass it up.

Are you making money with this camera?

i won't currently be making money but its always a possibility. plus, the reason why I pointed out the fact that I work with Nikons is because im used to how the zoom is handled, not that i already have lenses or anything to that matter.

If you're used to the system already, you'll learn faster? :dunno: I've used lenses that zoom both ways. :noes: It all becomes intuitive after the first spin.

I guess its just that i've only used lenses that zoom a particular way and the canon goes the opposite. Is it truly that big of a deal? no. but is it something to consider, maybe.

Working a lens zoom isn't exactly like making a switch from shifting gears in a car with your right to left hand. :o

Hmm, I don't know what is more convincing if I were a potential buyer. You, or one of those NFL Canon ads in Popular Photography.

I love my D70. That's all I'm going to say. Go do what I did and try them both out back to back. To me, the 20D wasn't worth the extra 300 and change. The Nikon just felt right to me. You may disagree, but whatever. . .

I went to Ritz and played with them both. Unfortunately, the 20D didn't have batteries so i can to improvise. I have, however, played with one at best buy and it was nice & quick. but since they strap down the lenses, I couldn't get a feel for its focusing.

I think im still leaning towards the d70 unless I can be convinced the 20D would be a better buy.

It sounds like you really want the D70, just get it already. You would've been taking pictures for the past 3-4 days. :hsugh:

gotta wait until a house sells...so about 4-6 weeks!

Now that I think of it, I probably would prefer the d70 because we use nikon lenses at work so I could always "borrow" some if I needed to!

    Thanks for the input.
