I was set on an AR10 in .308 for awhile, but changed my mind in favor of 6.5 Creedmor in an AR10 platform (DPMS LR series). It out-performs all of the AR15 OAL compatible cartridges and .308 as well.

Definitely more expensive than a CETME, but pretty goddamn accurate for a longer range gas gun.

Word, at least you can safely fire commercial ammunition out of these. Finding 7.62x51 NATO isn't always a walk in the park.

  18. This is pretty cool. There are a shitload of 6.5mm projectiles available and if you get into reloading, you can reload match grade ammo for less than similar .308.

I like AR-10's, but that is an expensive game to get into. Seems as though many people say just to bite the bullet and have GAP/Noveske/etc spin you up a good upper, and skip all the bullshit. That would work, but cost you a ton of money.

For a battle rifle, I always liked the FAL's a lot, but they aren't cheap either. I rocked a CETME once upon a time, and it was ok...... trying to put optics on it was a bitch, and so was the mag-release.

If interested in that route, I'd look heavily into the PTR's, as they are supposedly a much better moutrap then even the original HK's. The CETME's can work, but Century fucked a bunch of them up really good. Read about how Century grinded the boltfaces to correct headspace, and know what to look for when buying one. Some of these guns are absolute shit. I don't know if I'd buy one without being able to examine it first, or unless I bought it from someone I had quite a bit of faith in.

    Just something to think about....
