I am going to Bristol in a few weeks, and want to rent a good tele lens. Of course I am sampling before buying, so I am up for recommendations. The last 2 rentals I had were the Canon 70-200L f2.8 and the 100-400L f4.5-5.6. The 100-400 was pretty sharp at most f-stops, but the push/pull blew ass.

I am seriously considering the Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 APO HSM.

    Anyone?

FWIW here is the POV from our seats......this was with my 300D and a cheapo plastic Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6......

    70-200 vr/is/ and a 400 prime with a 1.4 teleconverter.

  4. if you don't mind losing some iq get the 100-400. shooting during the day like thish you won't need the 2.8 so you should be fine.

    500 f/4 > 400 f/2.8 for motorsports.

4lbs lighter, 100mm more reach, and you don't need f/2.8 in midday sun.

    If I were you, I'd buy a 70-200 f/4 (non-IS) and rent a 500 f/4 IS.

  6. 500 f/4, wonder how much that would be to rent? :eek3:

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm only going to rent one lens though, and judging by my pics with the old gear.....I don't really need more than 300mm.

    Anyone personally used a Canon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6 L?

  9. I've used it, it's not bad, it's more of a vacation/travel lens. Something you will use when you don't want to pack an arsenol of lenses and don't mind losing some iq. I don't have any pics from it on my computer but I might have some at home. It's still pretty good though, 100-400 has better iq in my opinion.

I live about 15 mins away . What day's are you going to be there ? I have a older shot from Bristol on my site. I use to whore that place out last summer though.

On a side note , I rarely ever used anything over 70mm there. You can get right on track with a pass .
