    My uncle is asking me to build him a tower, but it's been so long since I've looked at comp hardware. I don't know what's the new hotness anymore :hs: Here is the criteria for the comp:

    1. $800 is just for the tower. Peripherals and monitor will be bought later.
    2. Must have a DVD burner
    3. Graphics and sound are not that crucial. There are no gamers in his family.
    4. At least 100gig of hd space.
    5. Doesn't matter if it's P4 or AMD.

    :bigthumb: But I personally would spend half of what you spent on the dvd burner, and buy a good powersupply and upgrade to a radeon XT.

    :cool: but I'm thinking of just going the all in one mobo route that tenzor suggested seeing how nobody will be playing any games in the household.

    If you arent going to use any high end applications, I see no need to spend 800 dollars. You could probably get it done ok for 600 or 500.

    That's what I was thinking. The $800 is just the budget that he threw out for me.

    I'm confused about ram. Do I have to get pc3200? It's so expensive. :hs:

  17. Maxvla

    Maxvla Guest

    depends on the bus speed of the processor.

    266 = pc2100
    333 = pc2700
    400 = pc3200

    Is it really worth geting a 400fsb cpu over a 333 one? And is worth getting a Barton chip over a regular one?
