anyways i need a good starting point for some DC reading. i recently ordered the Geoff Johns Green Lantern tpb's so i can read Sinestro Corps war :hsd:

what are some important events i have to read to understand whats been going on in DC. i know the Crisis events are a must have but is there any others in trades i would need to pick up?

Ignore the resident all-hater. He'll hate on your pet cats tail if he has to.

Green Lantern is definitly a good place to start.
I'd also recommend reading 52, which kinda starts off slow and has a great middle, then starts going down but has a really great ending. Just don't read the weekly series that follow it (countdown and trinity).

If you like Geoff Johns work (personal God of mine) i'd also suggest the JSA who has a real solid history in the DC universe and touches on many facets of it. His run is quite long, but if i'm not mistaken, i should have upped it all on WarSkrull.

As for the main Trinity (not the series, just supes, bats and diana), ignore the main Batman title and for the love of all that is holy the "RIP" event. If you want a solid Batman title, go for Detective Comics, specially Paul Dini's run. Superman title is sort of okay, but for stellar action read none other than Action Comics. Geoff Johns just happens to write it :mamoru:

As for the slightly small, but god stuff, i'd recommend Legion of Super-heroes, although it's getting cancelled soon :hs::wtc:. But whatever you do, don't read the incarnation that has Supergirl in it. That was just aids and fail.
    Jonah Hex is also
The only comic i'll actually buy the trades of as soon as it hits the shops.

Booster Gold is also really good, but it's sometimes hit and miss, but when it hits it really does good :bigthumb:

Justice, Oh man what a good read.

Crisis of Infinite Earths > Zero Hour: Crisis in Time > Identity Crisis > Infinite Crisis> Final Crisis

52 comes after Infinite Crisis, where the Multiverse was once again re-shaped.
In all honesty you don't need to read Zero Hour to understand any of the following Crisis series, but i'd suggest the first Crisis as it sets the foundation for the future of DC comics in many ways.

last year of Action Comics was amazing. I have no idea what's going on in the book now but the Legion and Braniac sagas were awesome

    Fucking :werd:
Seems anything Geoff Johns touches is fucking gold

You mean with Superman and the whole New Krypton thing? It'll blow over soon, and even if it doesn't, it shouldn't affect the awesomeness of Action Comics. I mean, jesus christ, i'd stick with Action Comics with Morrisson and Jeph Loeb working on the story as long as we get the ludicriously awesome art of Gary Frank.

I tried to put together a google spreadsheet with the relevant recent Green Lantern stuff: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pEqqrfptQJxI-la8NLKZCdA

I hate the way DC does their graphic novels. It's maddening the way they spread shit from multiple titles into a single graphic novel. Like for instance to get into JSA you have to pickup a trade that covers shit from JLA as well.

Then to add to the madness they put everything out in hardcover first at a higher price of course, then much later on you can buy the softcover. :ugh:

Image does it best and does it right. The first graphic novel of any series is out in softcover right away at a lower rate to get you hooked.

i noticed when i bought these green lantern hardcovers it doesnt tell me what issues or what volume it is :ugh: i had to open them all in books a million to see what the hell i was getting first. marvel lists what issues it is on the back of the book

i used to buy only tpbs but marvel went up on theirs and for a couple dollars more you can get a hardcover with nicer pages. so now i only buy hardcovers unless i have a bunch of them in tpb already

well that was a jsa/jla crossover, so it wouldn't do much if you missed every other part of the story :hsugh:

I absolutely understand that. I'd rather buy JSA 1-6 and JLA 1-6 to get the relevant pieces of the story I guess.

In other words just give me each series as a standalone collection rather than this spread around shit.

it was the same story and it went back and forth between the two, so if you bought them seperate, reading it chronologically would be a chore.
