I just got this used (not so used) Seagate 120gb serial ATA HD from my supplier (for a hefty price tag of $0). The problem is that the computer reads only 9.76gb though. :wtf: :ugh:
So what's up with it? Bios problem? Needing additional software?

Note: I'm not a good computer geek by any definition.

    Thanks for any help. :wavey:

um, did you partition the drive, or just throw it in from the status you got it? Most likely, it was only partitioned as a 10gb and the rest might be extended or just not formatted yet. Are you running WINXP?

First. I didn't partition it. From what I saw, it was partitioned for 9.76gb the remaining portion are unallocated. I can't format it because a message keep popping up telling me to close any window that might be displaying the content of the drive, and close any disk utility....

    I am running WinXP professional.

  5. Go into Disk management to see if it's present; it's also where you can format and activate the rest of the unused drive.

Administrative tools > Computer management > Storage...
